At some point in December, probably in the next few days, there will come a cold morning when I wake up in a start and realize that the holiday parties are just a few days away. I’m a bit of a procrastinator. I rarely bring out the decorations until the week before Christmas, and shopping for gifts is another story entirely. It’s not that I don’t love the holidays, I’m just preoccupied with the day-to-day of my business and my passion, which are one and the same – health. Most of the people on my list already have everything they truly need, so I’m going to give them the gift of well-being. Here are my top gift picks for the health nut in your life.
The Gift of Hydration.
Hydration is essential to fitness and performance, so every fitness buff needs a nice water bottle to bring to the gym. I recommend something durable made of glass or stainless steel. They healthier because they don’t contain toxic chemicals that can be released by plastic bottles. In addition, some of these bottles are insulated and can keep drinks hot or cold for hours at a time. They come in all colours, shapes, and sizes, and can often be personalized.
The Gift of Nutrition.
Clean eating is just as important as hydration for fuelling those workouts. Consider giving a kitchen gadget to help make healthy eating easy. Mini blenders, spiralizers, zesters, and stainless steel bento lunch containers make fantastic gifts. Even better, have some healthy food delivered right to your loved one’s door. In recent years, we’ve seen the rise of the healthy meal kits delivered right to their door with all the fixings.
The Gift of Body Maintenance.
If your loved one is a regular exerciser why not help them keep that gym bag stocked? Maintenance and mobility tools such as foam rollers and massage balls help work out knots and kinks in those tired, sore muscles. Yoga blocks and bands, stretch bands, tape, wraps, and compression gear make great stocking stuffers. We love local supplier White Lion Athletics for their awesome customer service and speedy delivery.
The Gift of Movement.
If you prefer to give that special someone the opportunity to try something new for their self-care routine, consider buying a pass to a local yoga or personal training studio. Many yoga studios and personal trainers offer gift certificates or drop-in passes. Anyone can benefit from some movement in their lives, from hard core fitness buffs to those who are just trying to get off the couch. Just make sure to check the schedule and the types of classes and training they offer to make sure that it’s a good fit. Choose a studio that is located near your giftee’s home or work, to make it convenient for them to attend classes. Check out North Star Fitness’ training and nutrition packages here. If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, let us know and we can arrange for a gift certificate.
The Gift of Pampering.
Who doesn’t love to be pampered? Staying healthy over the long term requires regular maintenance for their body. This might mean a trigger point session, reflexology, acupuncture, active release or an old-fashioned massage. This is on the top of my wish list for the holidays!
The Gift of Personal Development.
We also love the idea of giving a favourite inspirational book, or a nice journal to log workouts, to set goals or to start a gratitude journal. We’re a fan of local Major Key Journals for their beautiful one-of-a-kind handmade journals and the fact that they donate a portion of each purchase to a local charity. We know that walking into a new gym can be intimidating and that starting a new fitness plan can be daunting. But we are here to help. Everyone starts with a No-Sweat Intro. Schedule an appointment today and let’s discuss how we can help you achieve your full potential!
