Taking Ego Out of Goal Setting

In 2009, I was training for the CrossFit Games.

In 2011, I trained to become a Senior Kettlebell Instructor.

In 2013, I trained for a Powerlifting meet.

In 2014, I trained for Olympic Weightlifting.

In 2015, I trained for a healthy pregnancy and childbirth.

Not sure where 2016, 2017, and 2018 went, but 2019 is approaching fast, and my goals will be very different. Now that I’m a mom and that our CFW family has grown, my priorities have changed and my goals have changed. Back in those days, it was easy, I set a goal, I put in the work, and just did it.

For 2019, I just want to be happy and healthy for my son Marius, and for the CFW community.

Some people might think that my 2019 goals aren’t as sexy or exciting as my 2009 goals. The reality is that my 2019 goals are 10 times harder to reach than my 2009 goals ever were. We often have preconceived notions about what goals should be. But as a coach, my job is to help you reach your goals, no matter of what they are.

No judgement here. There’s simply no room for elitism in goal setting.

This is me letting you know that I’m here to listen. A goal review is a guidepost on your health and fitness journey, and my job is to help you figure out where you want to go in 2019 and make a plan to get you there. I understand that the prospect of booking a meeting with a coach, especially one called a ‘goal review’ , can be daunting. You might be afraid that playing with your grandkids isn’t a worthy enough goal. Or you might think that it’s not my job to help you show up 3 times per week, kick the Diet Pepsi habit, or manage your triglyceride levels.

Whatever your path, I want to help you get there.

What is a Goal Review?
A goal review is a quick sit-down at the gym. Usually, 15 minutes is enough to discuss your progress, reframe your goals, and work together to make a actionable plan to get you there.

When is a Good Time to Do a Goal Review?
The best time to sit down and think about goals is at the beginning of your fitness journey, or when you hit a turning point, where you have achieved the results you originally sought out, and you want to set your sights on something new. Another great time to do a goal review is when you feel like you are plateauing or not getting the results you want. We can identify the keystone habits that will turn things around for you.

What Kinds of Challenges Can We Help With?
Here are just a few of the issues that we helped resolve for our clients at a goal review:

You have an injury – Injuries are hard, and we can help you plan your recovery. We may refer you to a competent therapist who can help you recover, give you some homework, make plan to modify your workouts at the gym, and we’ll update our coaching staff about your situation.

You have a friend who needs our help – If you are already a member at CrossFit Winnipeg, you might have a friend or family member who’s been commenting on your results and you’d like to help them get started on their fitness journey, but you’re not sure where to start. Tell us about their challenges and what drives them, then we’ll set up a time for them to come in and chat with us, and try out an appropriate workout for their needs.

You have a specific goal in mind – This might be a health goal, such as improving your energy or reducing pain. It might be a performance goal, like getting a chin-up or lifting more weight. Or it might be an aesthetic goal, like losing weight or getting rid of those love handles.

You’re not sure you’re in the right program – Maybe you’ve been doing Crossfit Classes but what you really love is lifting weights. Maybe you’ve been running marathons but want to increase your overall strength or flexibility. We can help piece the puzzle together.

So consider this your personal invitation to sit with me for a Goal Review. Just follow the link and let me know when you want to chat.
